Text Box: On February 27th, students from Ms. Roebuck’s and Mr. Worley’s classes were treated to a real experience. They were invited out to Charlotte Douglas Airport to the USAir training center to experience flying in a $14 million flight simulator. The trip was arranged by Dirk Dockins, father to Drake Dockins. After spending an hour being briefed by Mr. Dockins, an instructor of commercial pilots and himself a pilot, and Ryan Ratcliff, also a pilot and instructor, the students were ready to fly their first commercial jetliner. The students took turns taking off from Washington National Airport, flying around the capital city, and landing back at the airport. They learned how to monitor critical instruments Text Box: Text Box: “I Believe I Can Fly” Text Box: PTO Sponsors Successful Silent Auction Fundraiser Text Box: Brisbane Academy’s PTO sponsored an outstanding silent auction program on February 24th. Ticket sales for the event totaled over 100. There were more than 50 auction items and numerous door prizes. Everyone had more than enough to eat and the entertainment and dancing was outstanding. All of the auction items, door prizes, food, and the puppet show were donated. Additionally, several business or individuals made cash donations to the Silent Text Box: Auction. All told, the PTO made $7559 on the evening and the money will go towards the Brisbane Academy Scholarship Fund. Parents planning committee members deserving special recognition for helping make this so successful include: Sybil Barrett, Gloria Richard, Lorna McCormick, Bettina Smith, Tiann Shade, Karen Norman and Latricia Hunter. Without the hard work of these parents, not only would it not even have been a successful Text Box: event, but it would not have been possible. Next year’s Silent Auction is scheduled for February 23, 2007.
